First Week Back!

We are back in full swing teaching and learning again for the 2019-20 school year. Those of you who have taught before know what goes into creating a classroom environment that is learner friendly. I have added pictures below of my classroom this year. I loved being able to start the year with the knowledge that if what I create doesn't work, I can always change it! Thank you, Growth Mindset!

There are some big changes this year in our household learners as well. S is starting 6th grade and will be attending middle school this year. She's riding the bus and has 7 different teachers, and all of the things that moms worry about! She has also already reported new friends and new things that she is learning. D, on the other hand, is getting the opportunity to be the oldest sibling on campus. She started 5th grade and is excited to have the same teacher that she had in 4th grade because Mrs. Payne moved up with her! I like to think that Mrs. Payne is just as excited to have Dylan again, too.

My husband and I each started our 19th year teaching and it has finally dawned on us that we are the "experienced" ones in the building now. We're taking on mentoring roles to other teachers and enjoying knowing that flexibility is key at the beginning of the year.

I have three regular courses left and a capstone course for my masters degree at Lamar and when I think about where I was this time last year, I confirm that I am still on the right path for my life and our family. I have learned so much and have been able to apply it to what I am doing right now and I absolutely love it!
